WGES Weekly Update for Jan 25 - 29
WILLOW GROVE ELEMENTARY Message sent - 1/24/2010
Greetings Grizzlies!
I hope you are enjoying our Southern California sunshine! There is a lot happening this week, so get ready for some Grizzly fun.
Thank you again to our families and volunteers who helped with our Science Family Night! Mark your calendars for our next Family Night on February 26th and travel around the world with us as we explore all of the cultures in our community. More details to follow.
It is not too late to turn in your box tops raffle form. We will be drawing our winner at Friday Flag this week on January 29th. Hope to see you there!
The second annual Run 4 Fun is coming up on Thursday, January 28th. This is a fun, festive, healthy morning that supports our PTA programming such as our Family Nights, Science Day, Literacy Day, Arts Attack supplies and the Willow Grove Olympics for all of our Grizzlies. Permission slips and prize charts were sent home with your child already. Please note the changes in the format from last year that are listed on the permission slips. Return your signed permission slip as soon as possible so your child may participate. If you can volunteer or donate water, bagels, or orange slices the day of the race, please contact Kim Lincoln at klincoln1@san.rr.com . Thank you for your help in providing great opportunities for our students.
We celebrate and appreciate the volunteer support we enjoy at Willow Grove. If you are curious as to how to get involved in 2010, there are many PTA programs that you might enjoy assisting. Please email wgepta@gmail.com if you are interested in helping with any of our upcoming events. We welcome you!
The WG Yearbook Committee would love your help capturing classroom events. If you help with the special projects or classroom celebrations, please save your pictures! In the next few weeks we will be making disks available for you to turn in your pictures for your class' page in the yearbook. Keep your ear out for an announcement as to when these will be available.
If you have a student that will be attending Black Mountain Middle School next year, they would love to have you join in the planning and decision making for their PTSA. If you are interested or have questions, contact their Nominating Committee Chairperson, Corrinne Cousar, at ccousar@san.rr.com .
The Environmental Committee would like to remind students, teachers, and parents that the black recycling containers around school are for bottles and cans only. No yogurt or applesauce containers please! Empty your bottles and cans before throwing them in the black bins. Parents and teachers, please review this information with your child. The Committee would welcome more volunteers to help with this effort. A big thank you to the existing team for raising more than $300 for the PTA!
With the beginning of the year, it is a good time to review school safety reminders with your child. Please emphasize the importance of walking in groups and not talking to strangers. For additional measures, visit the PUSD website at www.powayusd.com and click on the school safety link on top of the home page.
Every ten years our Constitution requires a Census for the primary purpose of reallocating the seats in the House of Representatives. Over the years the Census has been used for many different purposes, including the distribution of funds to schools. The importance of accurate information is therefore clear. The Bureau of the Census is in the process of recruiting 1500 part time and temporary workers from North County to accomplish this goal. For more information, go to www.2010censusjobs.gov or call 1-866-861-2010.
Have a grrrrreat Grizzly week!
