| Character Counts - A national character education program was adopted by PUSD in 2003. Based on the principles of the "Six Pillars," Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship, a different positive character trait is focused on each month. By reinforcing these traits at home, children will more likely use them to make good decisions for themselves and those around them. |

| Directory - The PTA compiles and prints a student directory each year. Collection of data takes place in August and September, with the distribution aimed at late October. |

| Olympic Day - Each classroom will represent a different ‘country’ during the Willow Grove Olympic Field Day. Leading up to this event, the students will be learning in their classrooms about Olympic traditions and the significance of their country’s participati on. The students will participate in a variety of different sporting events and field activities. |

| Red Ribbon Week - In 1988, October 23-31 was proclaimed National Red Ribbon Week. Over 100,000 schools and organizations nationwide celebrate Red Ribbon Week. During Red Ribbon Week activities will be happening throughout the week to promote "Healthy Living" and a drug-free environment. |

| Reflections - A program that allows children to express creatively and to receive positive recognition for orignal art works inspired by a pre-selected theme, while increasing the community awareness on the importance of the arts in education. Categories include: visual arts, literature, musical composition, photography, film production and dance choreography. | Room Parent Coordinator - Keeps Room Parents up to date on upcoming events, classroom ideas, volunteer opportunities, etc. |

| Running Club - Running Club is an optional program to encourage good physical fitness habits. Students walk or run around the track during recess on Fridays to earn lap markers. Four lap markers equals one mile. Ribbons will be awarded throughout the year to the students who have reached 5 miles, 10 miles, etc. Medals will be awarded at the end of the year to the top girl and boy in each class and trophies will be awarded to the top overall runners. |
