How Do I Become a Volunteer?

NEW Campus Check-In Procedures: Beginning this year, all visitors and volunteers must sign in through the Verkada system in the front office. A government-issued photo ID is required to enter campus. After checking in, you will receive a printed sticker with your name that must be worn at all times while on campus. We know this is a change and appreciate your patience as we implement this new process. Larger events, such as Friday Flag, will have alternative sign-in procedures that will be communicated to families in advance. 

New application: All volunteers, both new and returning, must complete the 2026–2027 volunteer application. Please note that this link is unique to Willow Grove. 

Photo ID required: A current government-issued photo ID must be uploaded with your application. Military IDs/CAC cards cannot be accepted. The name on your application must match your ID exactly.

TB clearance: When TB clearance is required, volunteers must submit the completed California School Employee Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Questionnaire, including both the questionnaire and clearance/certificate pages.

Become a Room Parent!

As a Room Parent, you will be serving as a liaison or point of contact for your classroom. Being a room parent is one of the most enjoyable and valuable volunteer opportunities at Willow Grove. You will be an important piece in communication between the parents, the teacher and the PTA/Foundation. As a Room Parent, you will be supporting this communication by distributing ready-to-go templates:

Level 1 volunteers: All Level 1 volunteers must complete AB 1913 – A Tool to Protect Our School Community training within 90 days of applying and upload the certificate to the application. 

How to Complete the AB 1913 Training:

Step 1: Access the JPA Learning Library

Step 2: Create an Account

  • Click “New User” and enter the requested information.

  • Be sure to save your login information for future years.

Step 3: Complete the Training

  • Select Catalog at the top of the page.

  • Locate and enroll in “AB 1913: A Tool to Protect Our School Community”.

  • Complete the course and save or print your Certificate of Completion as a PDF.

  • Upload the PDF certificate to your Level 1 Volunteer Application before your first day of service.

Become a Room Photographer!

As the Room Photographer, you will be capturing the joy and learning that goes on in the classroom or during special events. These candid photos will be shared with the class families and with our yearbook team to ensure each child is represented in the yearbook at the end of the year.

Become a Day Of Event Volunteer!

There are many wonderful events held throughout the year that can only be a success if we have volunteers to make it happen. This is a great option for volunteers that are able to commit to specific times/dates for volunteering. Keep an eye out on communication from your Room Parent and the weekly ConnectEd emails for volunteer opportunities!

What events can I volunteer for during the school year?

  • Staff Luncheons/Staff Treats: Help organize, set-up and clean-up the luncheons! Our events are scheduled for the following months: August, November, January, and May. These events are during the school day in the staff lounge. 

  • Book Fair: We will have two book fairs this year! One is scheduled for mid-September and one is mid-March. The Book Fair will run during the school day for all grades, as well as after school on Thursday for a family night. Help kids pick out books, run a checkout stand, and help keep things organized and running smoothly. 

  • Running Club: Assist on Thursdays on the field. Running Club begins October 1st and runs through mid-May, 2027 

  • Movie Night: Support one of our most popular events, Movie Night, on Friday in early October. This event is after school in the early evening. Our chair will be looking for help the day of the event with set-up and clean-up. 

  • Cultural Night: We will showcase art, food, music, dancing, etc. highlighting our diversity and culture. You can draw from volunteers at school to showcase their culture and there is a small budget to hire outside vendors. This is scheduled for mid-October and is after school in the quad.

  • Bingo Night: this is a NEW EVENT this year! Help set-up the MPR for a fun evening of Bingo, help hand out supplies and organize families before the games begin, help identify bingos or run the prize table, help clean up at the end of the event. 

  • Grizzlies Got Talent: Help support the talent show, scheduled for mid-February, with auditions and rehearsal the month prior. Assist with set up, clean up, music, decorating and organizing the talent acts the day of. This event is after school.

  • APEX: This is our BIG fundraiser event. Volunteer at the event. Scheduled for early February and is during the school day on the field.

  • Parent/Child Dance: Scheduled for mid-January. Plan a fun dance the kids and parents will remember. This event will be scheduled after school in the early evening. Set up, clean up and booth assistance will be needed.

  • STEAM Night: This is another big and popular event that showcases the best of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. This is scheduled for mid-March and is after school in the quad.

  • Spelling Bee: this is a fun event for the students held in early April. Help judge the contestants and their spelling or help set-up and clean-up in the MPR. This event runs after school. 

  • College Field Day: Volunteer to support a fun day of activities/sports for the kids! This is scheduled for the end of May on the field.
